My Alice in Wonderland cake

Hi everyone!

As most of you know, I've started an amazing job as Head of Design at Topshop, well my life has taken a sudden twist. One of my new friends Holly, has her birthday party on Sunday 6th April and every year, she hosts a Great Disney Bake Off.

You see Holly loves Disney! I like Disney very much but she's obsessed. So when I went along, I knew I'd have to take part. But I knew it would be hard. Two of my friends are friends with Holly, Jennifer and my boss Liz but the rest were complete strangers to me! So I'd be competing against people, who I didn't know. You never know, they could have been champion of MasterChef, Great British Menu and the Great British bake-off!

So I knew I had to think of something good. I looked at pictures of old cakes that had been served up. Most of my ideas had already been taken and I knew I wouldn't stand a chance. I mean who could beat this Narnia cake from 2012?

Then I knew with 2013, I wouldn't even come 2nd never mind 1st!

So I thought of Disney films and I then had an amazing idea! I'd do an Alice in Wonderland themed one. I mean with Alice in Wonderland, I can be as wacky as I want. So I sketched out a drawing and tried to copy it. At first it seemed impossible but it actually turned out ok!

So I had my cake ready and who's prepared to see it? Here it is!

The cards are held on with cocktail sticks and I just placed them in when I got to Holly's house. And the tea party turned out ok if I'm honest. And knowing Holly, she went to all the stops! Here is some images.

And as it was a nice day and a very sort of colourful party, I thought it would be a perfect time to wear my repli-Kate dress.

Kate's Blue Polka-Dot Dress

Me in the dress

The minute I saw her wearing it I knew I had to have a repli-kate.
I scoured the high street and internet for a few weeks hoping to find a good copy but unfortunately I had no luck in my quest…until I had a browse on Etsy. Then I came across the wonderful seller Samantha for ByDesignNewZealand and saw that she designs and hand-makes beautiful repli-Kates of Kate’s Polka-dot dress. I instantly knew this was the perfect choice so I specified my measurements and only after a week of waiting the dress arrived, beautifully packaged, all the way from New Zealand. I tore open the wrapping, tried it on and it fitted like a dream.
